Reduce & Reuse!

reuseIt is best, both economically and environmentally, to minimise waste at source by reducing the amount of rubbish we generate in the first place.

Thinking about disposal before you make a purchase, and using products again to give them a second life will both help to reduce your waste.

Go to here to find out more on how to reduce and reuse your waste.  This web page includes lots of information and advice on the following:

  • Home composting
  • Washable nappies
  • Reducing junk mail
  • Reuse in your home
  • Reuse in the community
  • SMART shopping (stands for Save Money and Reduce Trash)

In order to assist residents to reduce their waste, Dorset County Council has produced a free household waste reduction pack.

The A5 size solution pack carries detailed information on the waste issue and includes useful tips and advice on the following:

  • home composting
  • reducing junk mail
  • reusing things you might otherwise throw away
  • reducing food waste
  • contacting furniture re-use organisations
  • obtaining modern reusable nappies
  • reducing the amount of packaging you buy

As well as information, the pack offers direct, practical solutions for dealing with rubbish. For example, it contains a postcard, designed to put near a front door, which warns callers not to leave junk mail or free newspapers.

The general pamphlet from the pack can be downloaded by clicking here or to obtain a hard copy, phone Dorset County Council’s waste Management Team on 01305 225002.
