Frequently asked Questions:

reuseEverything goes to landfill doesn’t it?

No.  In Dorset, we are currently recycling approximately 40% of waste produced by householders.  Material collected for recycling is taken to one of our two recycling facilities where it is sorted and bulked up before being transported to different factories and made into new products.  To find out what material is made into, click here.

Why can’t I recycle all my plastics?

Material can only be recycled if there is an end process that uses the collected material to make a new product.  At the current time there are only established markets for recycling the two main plastics used in plastic bottle manufacture.  Plastic is notoriously difficult and expensive to recycle due to the bulky nature of the material and the practicalities involved in separating the various different types of plastic.
